The MUHC Mental Health Mission is the principalt raining and teaching unit for McGill residents in Psychiatry.
It also provides clinical training for McGill medical students (during psychiatry core and elective rotations), Psychiatry fellows, Family Medicine residents, Psychiatry MSc and PhD students, medical students from other universities (elective rotations), as well as physicians from other countries (observerships).
The MUHC Mental Health Mission is also a teaching unit for allied-health professionals, providing training and education to McGill students in Psychology, Counseling Psychology and Occupational Therapy.
In addition, many members of the mission have developed specific training programs, for example, training in addictions for health professionals, as well as training in techniques for cognitive-behavioural therapy:
Training in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy
The MUHC CBT Unit conducts a 15-week training program twice a year at the Allan Memorial Institute, and it is teleconferenced simultaneously to sites such as the Douglas Institute and the Jewish General Hospital. The course focuses on basic CBT skills acquisition including case formulation and cognitive and behavioural strategies. To know more, click here.
Training in the Treatment of Addiction and Concurrent Mental Illness
The MUHC Addictions Unit conducts a 6-week training program once per year. The course focuses on understanding addiction and the effects of drugs on the brain and behaviour. Modules include screening and brief interventions, case formulations, and the treatment of concurrent mental illness such as depression, anxiety, psychosis as well as personality disorders.
