Doctors reflect on Dawson College shooting 10 years later
Dr. Tarek Razek, chief of Trauma for the adult sites of the MUHC, was making his rounds at the Montreal General Hospital when he was called to treat victims at Dawson College. “My initial memory was disbelief,” he said. “It was incredible how everyone rose to the challenge.” MUHC psychiatrist-in-chief, Dr. Nadia Szkrumelak, was also present at the Montreal General Hospital that day. She felt particularly connected to the event because her daughter was a student of Dawson College at the time. The mobile clinic would visit community centres, shopping centres and other popular venues so that women could be screened for ovarian cancer close to home and work.
