International recognition for work of two Canadian researchers in Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health
Dr. Sasha Bernatsky honoured by the American College of Rheumatology and Dr. Giada Sebastiani by the European AIDS Clinical Society
Source: RI-MUHC. Congratulations to Drs. Sasha Bernatsky and Giada Sebastiani, whose expertise in their respective research domains has been recognized by international organizations. Both are members of the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program (IDIGH) at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) and conduct research at the Centre for Outcomes and Research Evaluation.
An expert on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), Dr. Sebastiani was recently appointed a panel member of the prestigious European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) Guidelines 2019. EACS panels are responsible for releasing a major annual update of the European Guidelines for treatment of HIV-positive adults in Europe, which are produced by the EACS. Across the five panels on HIV treatment, Co-morbidities, Coinfections, Opportunistic infections and Drug-drug interactions, Dr. Sebastiani is the sole North American representative. She will act as a member of the Co-morbidities panel.
Dr. Bernatsky, who is also a James McGill Professor of Medicine at McGill University, was selected by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) to give an oral presentation at the international ACR Annual Scientific Meeting taking place in Atlanta, Georgia, in November 2019. Drawing close to 20,000 researchers, clinicians and other stakeholders, this event is the largest rheumatology meeting in the world. As further distinctions, Dr. Bernatsky’s abstract, “Cancer Risk in a Large Inception SLE Cohort,” was selected from hundreds of others in its category to be featured in the ACR Spotlight program, which summarizes the top research findings of the meeting, and she was asked to present this work at the ACR Clinical Research Conference pre-event on “Big Data: Analytics, Registries and Beyond.”
Congratulations, Drs. Bernatsky and Sebastiani!
