InaugurationMUHC inaugurates central labs

The new MUHC facility is part of a provincial reorganization of laboratory services known as Optilab, intended to save tens of millions of dollars a year in lab fees  and speed up processing. Under the program, the government has set up 11 high-volume processing centres across the province, including the one in the Research Institute of the MUHC at the Glen site, which includes some of the most advanced pieces of lab equipment in North America. Dr. Ewa Sidorowicz, the MUHC director of professional services spoke to CTV, Global TV and the Gazette.

Stimulation neuroNeurological therapy: Can stimulating the tongue help stimulate the brain?

A new experimental therapy is trying to determine if stimulating the tongue can retrain the brain and offer some relief to those with neurological issues. When award-winning American former talk show host Montel Williams was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2000 he began searching for new treatments. His company, Helius Medical Technologies has chosen Gabriel Leonard and Alain Ptito, neuropsychologists at McGill University and the Montreal Neurological Institute to conduct an independent pilot study, looking at 14 MS patients from Montreal in a double blind, controlled study.
