Neither a girl nor a boy
At birth, all parents who don’t already know their kid’s gender are expecting to hear “it’s a girl!” or “it’s a boy!” What if doctors were to say: “We don’t know”? It would be quite a shock. That is what happens when a newborn’s anatomy is neither typically male nor female. Through Gabriel’s, Sophie’s and Justin’s stories, we learn about intersex, formerly known as “hermaphroditism”. Drs. Annie Sbrocchi, Shuvo Ghosh, Mohamed El-Sherbiny and Isabelle De Bie and ethicist Lori Seller have participated in a documentary called Ni fille ni garçon and aired on TéléQuébec on November 28.
