Medical Biochemistry

Tissue TypingRecognizing the centrality of its role in patient care, the Division of Medical Biochemistry of the MUHC offers state-of-the-art core and specialty chemistry testing for the benefit of the entire health community. It also pursues teaching and research activities.

The division is part of the MUHC Department of Medicine and is a partner with the other laboratory divisions of the MUHC. 

MISSION STATEMENT

  1. To support the MUHC healthcare missions of clinical care, education, and research by demonstrating the core values of excellence in technology and consultative services, leadership in evidence-based medicine, and integrity in our interactions with our clients and colleagues. 
  2. To constantly evolve and improve in order to respond to the needs of the MUHC clinical programs. 
  3. To enhance patient health and healing, and support the healthcare system by providing high quality, cost-effective, complete, and innovative laboratory services. 
  4. To serve, as part of a leading academic hospital, as a reference center centre and laboratory for other institutions, responding to the needs of our clients – hospitals, the local community, the McGill Réseau universitaire intégré de santé (RUIS) , and the province at large. 
  5. To expand specialized testing, whether it be in small molecule analysis, therapeutic drug monitoring, or toxicology, in order to provide Personalized Medical Care.
  6. To provide teaching in laboratory medicine for our students and residents, other healthcare professionals, the wider community, McGill RUIS, and other healthcare networks.
  7. To provide continuing education to technologists and healthcare professionals.
  8. To be involved in both basic and translational research. This involves collaborations between bench and bedside, within the MUHC, and among provincial, national, and international institutions.
  9. To evaluate and develop cutting edge technology for the benefit of the ongoing needs of the population.
