Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery

Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (OTL-HNS) is a specialty that focuses on illnesses of the head and neck.

Surgeons who specialize in this are also known as ENT (ear, nose and throat) surgeons.

Head and neck cancer was the sixth most common type of cancer diagnosed in Canada in 2021.  It can affect the sinuses, mouth, throat, larynx (voice box), swallowing passages, salivary glands, and thyroid glands.

Skin cancers, including melanoma and others that develop on the face, neck, and scalp, are also considered head and neck cancers.  

Many head and neck cancers respond well to treatment. 

The Voice and Dysphagia Laboratory treats patients with vocal and swallowing disorders.

Our patients’ quality of life can be improved greatly in a matter of minutes. Patients can come into the lab whispering and leave a few minutes later talking, sometimes even singing!   

Our team assesses and treats a wide variety of problems affecting the ear.

Our patients have hard-to-treat problems of the nose and sinus. Sometimes they have severe medical complications from infections, tumours or medical procedures.
