In the coming days, we'll be introducing you to some of the bravest men and women in our city who are at work in the fight against COVID-19, the exceptional MUHC employees delivering quality care during this critical time.

To start, meet some of our Medical Laboratory Technologists in the MUHC Microbiology lab. Their job is to test biological samples for the detection of viral, parasitic, bacterial or fungal infections. In response to the pandemic, their focus has shifted primarily to the detection of COVID-19. They are working around the clock to ensure patients, healthcare workers and others in the community receive their screening test results as soon as possible.

"Our workload has increased dramatically, requiring the team to work especially hard," says Toula Nickolaou, manager of the MUHC Microbiology and Genetics Laboratories. "In an effort to meet the ever-increasing demand, the laboratory is in the process of hiring extra help, including retired laboratory techs."

Help them help you by practicing social distancing, and by staying home.
