Setting the record straight: possible nurses exposure to a COVID-19-positive patient in the MGH Hemodialysis unit

The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) would like to clarify the actions taken after a patient in the MGH Hemodialysis unit tested positive for COVID-19 last Sunday.

The previous Thursday, while asymptomatic, the patient had been in contact with nurses of the unit. While all the other nurses were properly protected, one nurse had not used protective equipment.

When the patient was confirmed to have COVID-19, the nurse manager followed standard procedure and contacted the MUHC’s Occupational Health and Safety Department. The exposed nurse was put in quarantine for 14 days; the other nurses were deemed fit to work.
