Mood Disorders Program

Assessment

The assessment process begins with the first appointment, but may continue over a longer period in cases which require additional time and clarification. The goal is to develop an accurate understanding of the clinical picture and determine the most beneficial interventions.

The first appointment will take about three hours. It will begin by filling out questionnaires, which takes approximately 30 minutes. This followed by an hour to an hour and a half long interview offered in a team approach with a resident, staff psychiatrist and other relevant members of the team, such as a nurse case manager, psychologist, social worker or occupational therapist. At the end of this assessment, the person will be given feedback regarding the team’s impression of the problem. The individual will be given information regarding various treatment options, and will jointly choose a plan with the team.
