NAGANO: New research submission management software at the MUHC
Dec. 1, 2015
In the next few months, the MUHC will be using Nagano, a new web-based research project management system, in replacement of eReviews. The Centre for Applied Ethics (CAE) of the MUHC is actively leading the implementation of Nagano with support for all involved in the approval and authorization of research at the MUHC (RI, pharmacy, DPS, etc).
Nagano manages the following elements of the research authorization process:
- Science and ethics evaluations
- Site-specific assessment including contracts, pharmacy, DPS, and feasibility.
- Multi-center projects
- Final authorization by the “Personne mandatée” by the Board of Directors
Nagano features that might interest you include:
- Nagano is currently being used in most teaching hospitals in the province. Multi-centre studies will be, to a large extent, shared seamlessly across different institutions participating in a trial.
- You can access the system via the Internet using Chrome, for example.
- Communications, documents and forms related to a project will transit through Nagano. The system provides information management and shared monitoring of who needs to act at each step of the approval process.
- The system interface is simple and user-friendly and the widgets and views will allow you to quickly track the status of your different projects and of the different activities related to each project.
- All users linked to a project will be notified by email and / or via the system tools (depending on your preference) of all activities related to each project.
- Nagano will also act as communication tool to disseminate advice and documentation.
- Others involved in research activities, Archives or Grants for example, will be able to access Nagano to view the approvals granted for each study.
Nagano will be the gateway for all research projects conducted at the MUHC or by MUHC or Neuro researchers. MUHC Research projects that are currently in progress will be transferred from eReviews (or paper) to Nagano prior to deployment.
Obviously, such changes will require some adjustments. Training sessions are scheduled for the New Year and ongoing support will be available. We will ensure continued communications through the Research Institute or Clinical Research Unit.
Thank you to all and do not hesitate to contact the Centre for Applied Ethics if you have any questions.
