What is the "courtyard project" at the Montreal General Hospital?

The courtyard project is an expansion planned for the space located between wings A, C and D at the MGH, and has been part of that hospital’s redevelopment plan since 2008. The project involves building a four-storey expansion within the courtyard in order to reorganize and modernize the Emergency Department (ED) and operating rooms. The project will increase the ED space by 40 per cent, as well as increase the number of operating rooms at the hospital, as well as improve the connectivity between these departments. Although the courtyard project has received zoning approval from municipal authorities, the project will not be started until our redeployment on the four sites is complete.
