Surgery from the 1930s to 1960
November 29th, 2012
At the former Saint-Joseph Hospital, the department of surgery was separated into operating and sterilization rooms. The furniture included a gurney and a portable stretcher, two sterilizers, an operating table and a glass table, tin-topped tables for surgical instruments and a reflector.
During the 1950s, new acquisitions brought improvements and better quality control of patient care, which was reinforced by the hospital’s team spirit and the expertise of the doctors. In 1968, the operating wing was completely renovated, making it more modern and more functional: working conditions were improved and the number of operations increased significantly.
