June 7 was Cancer Survivors Day. CTV and La Presse interviewed Dr. Genevieve Chaput, head of the Cancer Survivorship Program at the MUHC and patient Tristan Williams who shared his own experiences in the fight against cancer since the age of 12.

Journal de Montréal and Radio-Canada International reported on a new multi-disciplinary study led by researchers at the Neuro and the Centre for the Study of Democratic Citizenship, which pinpoints the brain area that influences electoral decisions. Dr. Lesley Fellows, a neurologist and researcher at the Neuro, discussed the brain mechanisms involved in processing decisions.

Living with ALS

TVA met with MUHC’s patient Nadia Banna, former museologist, who has received an Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis  – a neurodegenerative disease that affects one in 50,000 people. She shared her experience in a very open way and addressed the delicate issue of “living with dignity”. Neurologists Drs. Rami Massie and Guy Rouleau from the Montreal Neurological Institute described the existing treatment and the hope for a cure. Last year’s Ice Bucket Challenge helped increase public awareness and collect $20 million in Canada for research.
