r Harley EismanMontreal scientists unveil a key mechanism that could improve brain function

A research team, led by the RI-MUHC, has broken new ground in our understanding of the complex functioning of the brain. The research, published in the current issue of the journal Science, demonstrates that brain cells, known as astrocytes, which play fundamental roles in nearly all aspects of brain function, can be adjusted by neurons in response to injury and disease. The discovery, which shows that the brain has a far greater ability to adapt and respond to changes than previously believed, could have significant implications on epilepsy, movement disorders, and psychiatric and neurodegenerative disease. Les Canadiens raise more than $14, 000The New Dialysis Unit at the Lachine Hospital is inaugurated

A press conference was held on February 12 to inaugurate the new dialysis unit at the Lachine Hospital. Health Minister, Gaetan Barette attended the press conference and took the opportunity to confirm the redevelopment of the Lachine Hospital. He added that $75 million has already been set aside for this project with construction set to start in 2018. The new dialysis unit at the Lachine Hospital was inaugurated on February 12 with a press conference attended by Health Minister Gatean Barette, members of the Lachine community and staff and planners involved in the development of the new unit. Michael Schermann, a former dialysis patient also attended the inauguration. Schermann received treatment at the Lachine Hospital twenty years ago, before the unit moved to the West Island and is happy to see it back in Lachine. Dr. John Kimoff answers questions about sleep

In a radio interview he gave last February 15, Dr. John Kimoff, head of the MUHC sleep lab, answered the public’s questions about sleep. Listen to the interview on CBC to get answers to a variety of sleep-related questions including the number of hours one should sleep each night and whether a lack of sleep can cause bags under your eyes.
