The MUHC and the greater healthcare network in Quebec is undergoing a significant transformation. Dr. Ewa Sidorowicz, Associate Director General of Medical Affairs and Professional Services of the MUHC and the Quebec government discussed this reorganization with the media. Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that can be diagnosed, is preventable and treatable, but that still kills millions of people around the world every year. Dr. Kevin Schwartzman, member of the McGill   International TB Centre based at the Research Institute of the MUHC and at McGill University and director of the MUHC’s Adult Respiratory Division, was interviewed by La Presse about a new machine capable of a rapid and cheaper diagnosis tests for TB among Aboriginal communities in Nunavut. Dr. Madhukar Pai, associate director of the Centre, co-authored an OpEd on the future of TB care in the Huffington Post.

Dr. Liam Durcan from the Neuro has written a novel entitled The Measure of Darkness, about neglect syndrome, a condition whereby damage to one hemisphere of the brain leaves sufferers with a severe deficit in spatial awareness. Durcan will appear with Susan Wener, Nalie Agustin, Heather O’Neill, Rapi Kaur and Justice Murray Sinclair in the Blue Metropolis event, The Walrus Talks, on Wednesday, April 13, at 6 p.m. Read more about it in the Montreal Gazette.

Anita Raj is a medical student at McGill and she's also a brain tumor survivor. She knows firsthand how art can help with the healing process. Raj is part of a group of McGill medical students that helped put together a special exhibit with the MUHC called Journeys Through Health Care. The exhibit is a display of artwork and stories created by 21 patients, caregivers, and health care providers. Each work of art is a different take on the experience of illness. Students show off neuron knowledge at Brain Bee

Fifty Montreal-area high school students put their neurons and synapses to work on March 15 answering questions on neurons and synapses. The students were contestants in the Brain Bee, a day of neuroscience trivia and learning at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital. Read the full article in the McGill Reporter.


MCH says Thanks to young kids making a big difference

MCH says Thanks to young kids making a big difference

For his 11th birthday, James Thomas Lowden asked for donations for the Montreal Children’s Hospital. On Thursday night, the hospital invited him to the Glen site in order to thank him. This past year, hundreds of children donated a total of $125,000 to the hospital. The donations provide sick children with music and art programs and also helps buy important medical equipment. Boxing fundraiser to give a boost to MUHC's Comfort Kit program

Spectators will have the pleasure of watching four sanctioned amateur bouts presented by Boxe-Quebec, the final one of which will feature Scott “Twinkle Toes” Chapman vs “Merciless” Mike Gales.

Chapman, a boxing enthusiast and thyroid cancer patient who underwent surgery at the MGH and radiation treatment at the RVH, can personally attest to the professionalism and compassionate treatment he received from Cedars CanSupport. He wanted the opportunity to give back to the Cedars community of doctors, nurses, volunteers and fellow patients, so he partnered up with Martin and created the first ever Fight for the Bell Fund event.
