MUHC responds to FIQ union claims

The MUHC wishes to refute the claims of the Syndicat des professionnelles en soins infirmiers et cardiorespiratoires du CUSM (SPSICR-CUSM) of improvisation in budget cuts that “don’t take into account the impact on care.”

Since we were informed by the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux of the need to actualize our clinical plan after our moves, the MUHC has conducted meetings with the clinical mission executives in order to align our operations to our mandate as an ultra-specialized facility providing complex care to patients and working in partnership with other CISSS and CIUSSS in the network.

A great deal of time was spent assessing the potential impact that our new funding parameters impose on some vital areas of the MUHC, such as the Emergency departments, Operating rooms or oncology wait times.   With the moneys allocated, the MUHC will maintain 799 permanent beds, at our historical occupancy rate, while closing temporarily beds during the summer holidays, Spring Break and the holiday season, where activity has traditionally been reduced.

We are confident that, although the changes being implemented will affect services at the MUHC, with the support of our new technical platform in addition to our network partners, we will be able to mitigate greatly the impacts and be able to continue offering the best quality of care for the most acute patients.

These ambitious transformations offer us to preserve and even enhance our center of expertise in terms of the assessment of technologies and health care methodologies. We intend to continue to excel in terms of education and continue leading in basic research and clinical innovations. Our transformation plan reinforces our vision to deliver efficient and innovative complex care that optimizes the patient experience.
