A guided tour of the Lachine Hospital
It was the turn of a group of managers; the very people actively planning the adjustments needed to provide care in the new space, to tour the construction site of the Lachine Hospital modernization project. The visit was led by MUHC architect Samia Mostefai, who has been involved in the project from the start, along with Myriam Ménard and SQI Project Director Jean-Simon Frenette. They were accompanied by Louis Simard, the Site Superintendent from Axor Construction. Although there is still a great deal of work to be done, and it sometimes takes some imagination to fully appreciate what the new hospital will actually look like, the visit provided an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the space and adapt the various plans.
Some said they were pleasantly surprised, like Stéphanie Rose, who exclaimed, “To see it in real life. Wow!” or Roberto Nucera, who remarked, “From the inside, it looks even bigger than from the outside!'"
Some, like Marie-Ève Dagneau, had the chance to see where their future office will be.
For his part, Salah Hadj Amara, assessed the site in terms of his skills and training. “Everything we imagined in relation to the safety and evacuation plan was confirmed when we visited the site. It’s great news!”
As Julie Marcil says: “What we’re working toward, despite the time that has passed since the initial planning stages, is still very much on target and perfectly meets the needs of the population. It’s exactly the right thing to do at the right time and that’s exciting.
So, after a period of testing and validation of the new building, the move is still scheduled for 2026.
