News for MUHC patients : Negative COVID-19 results can be transmitted via text message to MUHC patients

Montreal, September 8, 2020 – Six hundred forty-five (645) text messages have been successfully sent to patients who have tested negative for COVID-19, since the implementation of this automated technology on September 2. Patients who go to the Glen site screening clinic, located outside the entrances of the emergency departments of the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), can receive their results via text message.

This successful use of technology, which is deployed according to best practices in data security, enables patients to quickly receive negative results through automatic messaging.

“We are pleased to offer this option, first and foremost, to patients who go to the screening clinic at the Glen site. We have their well-being at heart, and this innovative way of doing things can certainly help reduce the anxiety they may feel while waiting for results," said Patricia Lefebvre, Associate Director General Support, Administration, and Performance.

Patient consent is obtained in order to send results by this automated, quick and simple technology. Patients can still choose to be informed by phone, if they prefer.

It is important to note that all patients who test positive for COVID-19 will continue to receive a call from the MUHC nursing team. -30-
