MUHC study reveals impact of ACNPs in cardiac surgery
Congratulations to Amale Ghandour, Nurse Practitioner in the D7 Cardiac Surgery Unit at the Glen site, on the recent publication of her study investigating the impact of acute care nurse practitioners (ACNPs) on patients who underwent surgical intervention following an acute coronary syndrome.
The study suggests that the involvement of ACNPs improves adherence to to guidelines for prescription at discharge, with nearly 8 times more compliant prescriptions and a trend toward a reduction of approximately 24 hours in hospital length of stay. However, the study does not show an impact on the 30-day readmission rate or emergency department visits following discharge.
This study is one of the first to highlight the added value of ACNPs in cardiac surgery.
