Our community deserves the best equipment to diagnose and treat cancer. Thanks to the support of The Best Care for Life Campaign, the McGill University Health Centre will purchase more than $20 million of new equipment for the new Comprehensive Cancer Centre, including the da Vinci Surgical System SI.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, the McGill University Health Centre will be among the first in Canada to purchase the SI model. This state-of-the-art surgical technology provides high resolution 3D vision, proprietary EndoWrist® instrumentation, Intuitive Motion and 4th arm. Recent studies indicate that surgeons using this surgical technique are getting better results than with traditional open or conventional laparoscopic approaches.
For most patients, this type of surgery means less pain, shorter recovery time, fewer blood transfusions, less scarring and a reduced risk of infection. It may also result in improved cancer control and a lower incidence of impotence and urinary incontinence for prostate cancer patients.
