Weon-Young Son MSc PhD

Chief Embryologist

Dr. Son is the laboratory director at McGill University Health Center (MUHC) Reproductive Center, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Royal Victoria Hospital, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He obtained a PhD degree from Sogang University, Seoul, Korea, in 2000. Dr. Son has more than 24 years of experience in clinical embryology. In 1992, Dr. Son started work as a clinical embryologist at CHA Infertility Center (Seoul, Korea), and then in 2000 Dr. Son moved to Maria Infertility Hospital (Seoul, Korea) as IVF Laboratory Director. In 2003, Dr. Son joined the McGill Reproductive Centre (present: MUHC Reproductive Centre in Montreal, Canada, as a Senior Clinical Embryologist and Dr. Son has been the Laboratory Director of the MUHC Reproductive Centre since 2008.

Dr. Son has been engaged in investigations of human oocyte maturation in vitro, blastocyst culture and cryopreservation of oocyte and embryo. Dr. Son has published over 90 original articles and reviews, and presented over 140 abstracts in scientific meetings all over the world. Dr. Son has been invited as a speaker at several international conferences. Several articles have been nominated for the Scientific Awards in ESHRE/ASRM meeting.

Dr. Son serves as Section Editor in Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology Journal and as an Associate Editor in Human Reproduction Journal (2014-2017). He also serves as a reviewer in international journals such as Human Reproduction, Fertility & Sterility, Reproduction, PLoS One, RBM online, Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology, European J of OB/GYN and Reprod biology, Scandinavian J of OB/GYN, Minerva OB/GYN, J of reproduction and endocrinology, The Scientific World Journal, International Journal of Fertility and Sterility.
