Clarification about the turnover rate at the MUHC

At the MUHC, the turnover rate for licensed practical nurses is 7.39% and not 13%.

An article published in the Journal de Montréal on July 10, 2019 reports on the turnover rate in some sectors of the MUHC. Unfortunately, the article contains inexact figures that we would like to correct.

At the MUHC, the turnover rate for licensed practical nurses is 7.39% and not 13%.

The turnover rate among patient attendants is 6.94% and not 17%.

The article reports that the turnover rate among nurses at the Montreal Chest Institute is 12%. More precisely, this rate is 11.63%.  However, it is important to note that many vacant positions are quickly filled by employees from other MUHC sites.

Different factors can affect an organization's turnover rate, that is, the ratio between the number of workers who, during a given period, left the organization and the average number of workers that the organization employed during the same period.

Employees may leave an organization for several reasons, some voluntary (retirement, resignation, return to school, relocation), others involuntary. Many of these departures are difficult to avoid.

It is particularly important to note that the turnover rate among nurses is 7.88%. In addition, the MUHC's turnover rates for all jobs combined are generally low and position us favourably compared to other institutions in the network.

The MUHC would like to reaffirm its strong commitment to providing its employees with a healthy and innovative workplace and a vision of health that allows them to develop their careers while contributing to the wellbeing of patients.
