Special message for MUHC adult sites: Family presence during the COVID-19 pandemic
In order to comply with MSSS directives, visits have been temporarily suspended at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) since March 16.
However, in response to the latest ministerial guidelines, exceptions apply in the following circumstances, for relatives with no symptoms of a COVID-19 infection and who have not been exposed to a person with COVID-19:
- For patients receiving palliative or end-of-life care;
- During childbirth and the postpartum stay;
On some units, exceptions may be made for humanitarian reasons.
Family members and caregivers are asked to contact the nurse in charge of the care unit where the patient is staying before going to the hospital. She will be able to assist them and answer any questions they may have.
Please note that in addition to these exceptional situations, special instructions apply in the case of children hospitalized at the Montreal Children's Hospital and residents of the Camille-Lefebvre Pavilion of the Lachine Hospital.
We recognize that this is a difficult situation for families. Pending new guidelines, we are making efforts to allow families to stay in touch virtually. To this end, electronic tablets have been made available to the care units. For more information and instructions on how to plan a virtual visit with your loved one, please visit the following sections: How do I stay connected with a patient during the COVID-19 pandemic? and Patient and Family Communication Assistance Service.
