Over the years, the MUHC Division of Thoracic Surgery has become the model of an academic surgical unit providing clinical care, outstanding research, and first-rate education to medical students, residents, and researchers.

Clinical

The Division of Thoracic Surgery is a national leader in innovative care of the patient with malignancies of the foregut and is home to one of the few North American Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection Program for early cancers of the esophagus and stomach. It leads the management of upper gastro-intestinal malignancies at the MUHC and heads Canada’s largest comprehensive program in esophageal cancer.

Research

The Division’s members perform research that is funded by national agencies and surgical societies. They also participate in leading science conventions and are active in numerous prominent clinical research societies.

Education

Over the past five years the MUHC Division of Thoracic Surgery has built a comprehensive clinical teaching unit that attracts both local and international elective students, residents, and fellows. Members of the division have been recognized with numerous teaching awards as outstanding educators.
