Maternal-Fetal Medicine

We offer tertiary and quaternary care for the mother and the unborn with complex needs resulting from a high risk pregnancy. Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists conduct diagnostic procedures and fetal therapies; collaboratively manage women with chronic illnesses; and determine the optimal evidence-based treatment for pregnant women who are at risk of an adverse outcome. Our members train MFM fellows and conduct research in a wide range of clinical settings.

Maternal perspective: there are dedicated clinics for endocrinological disorders of pregnancy, medical disorders of pregnancy, haematological disorders of pregnancy and pregnancies in women with congenital heart disease (MAUDE).

The Fetal Therapy Program at the MUHC is one of 21 fetal surgery centres that comprise the North American Fetal Therapy Network and is one of only four centres in Canada to offer fetoscopic fetal surgery.
