Non-MUHC patients: If your test referral is from outside the MUHC, please use the Clic Santé website to make an appointment at a local point of service near you.

Sample drop-off

Please note that no appointment is necessary when dropping off a sample. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to closing time to ensure specimen processing.

Choosing a local point of service near you

Many services, including blood tests and vaccinations, are available at local points of service around the province. Click here to find a local point of service near you.

Before visiting one of our test centres

  1. Book your test centre appointment online via Clic Santé
  2. Ensure you have:
  • A valid MUHC hospital card (If need be, visit the Admitting Office prior to your visit to obtain a card or update an expired card). Note: hospital cards are not mandatory for a blood test at the Lachine Hospital.
  • Your government-issued health card; A valid laboratory test requisition, given to you by a healthcare professional with the following mandatory information;
    • Patient’s full name or stamped hospital card/Medicare card
    • Physician’s full name and license
    • Requested tests, clearly written and/or checked off

Please arrive ten minutes before your test centre appointment. You still need to take a number when you arrive.  Your number will be called and you will be registered at the desk prior to being seen for your test. 

Test requirements

  1. Fasting can be requested for specific blood tests. Please ask your physician if you need to be fasting (8-12hrs) prior. You must come fasting for the following specific tests:
  • Fasting Glucose (AC)
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT 75g)
  • Glucose 2hr PC
  1. Urine/stool specimen collections and drop-offs only (no blood tests needed):
  • Please take a number (bottom button)
  • Note: you do no wait in the same queue as the patients with blood tests
  • A properly filled out doctor’s requisition is needed with each sample collection as well as the patient’s hospital card
  • Please refer to the provided specimen collection procedure for further instructions on how to collect a specific sample

Notes for the clientele:

  • All centres are closed for statutory holidays and weekends.
  • The laboratories cannot give laboratory results to patients.

Results

Getting the results

Test results are sent to your healthcare team as soon as they are processed. Results of urgent tests may be ready within an hour of collection. Results of routine tests are usually ready within a day. Specialized tests may take longer to process. The results are then sent to your doctor by fax or mail.

The laboratories cannot give laboratory results to patients. Test center does not have access to patient results.

Results can only be sent to the prescribing physician on the requisition. Other healthcare professionals requesting a copy can contact the prescribing physician or can contact the laboratory themselves through Client Services at 514 934-1934 ext. 35687 (option 4) or by email at [email protected]. This email and phone number is reserved for healthcare professionals only.

You can access your health information via:

  • The physician or prescriber who ordered the tests.
  • The MUHC Medical Records Department.
  • The On-line “Québec Health Booklet” site, after registration. The results will be available on this site after 30 days.
