Volunteer Maggie Shaddick making positive change at the MUHC and beyond

The MUHC is fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers who are committed to making real, positive changes in the world. Maggie Shaddick, who has been working at the Montreal General Hospital snack bar every Wednesday morning for the past seven years, is one shining example.

On February 20, Shaddick, who is 85 years old, was honoured for her 50 years of service as a scout leader when she received the Bronze Wolf Award from the World Scout Committee, which recognizes outstanding leadership.

On a broader scale, with the support of Mark Wainberg, a leading Canadian AIDS researcher and activist, Shaddick has been working to bring the Red Ribbon Scouting badge to Canada. This badge promotes education and awareness about HIV/Aids.  We invite you to view a CTV report and view this video, which all highlight Shaddick’s mission.

Shaddick says her father always told her she could be whatever she wanted to be in life. “Don’t hang around waiting for permission all the time. If you really feel you want to do something and your heart is in it, do it!”  She says this advice has shaped her life.
