Research focuses on familial transmission of mood and anxiety disorders using the family study approach to (1) to characterize the phenotypic heterogeneity of what is transmitted within families, and (2) to examine factors that contribute to the familial transmission, such as environmental factors, genetic factors, and the source of subject sampling. She also examines the (3) comorbidity of migraine and other medical disorders (e.g. sleep and cardiovascular disorders) with mood and anxiety disorders as familial phenotypes of these disorders.
