Following last month’s report on the newly revised RI MUHC By-Laws, I am pleased to announce the appointment of key members of the RI management team.

Since the creation of the RI-MUHC more than ten years ago, the research landscape has changed significantly, both at the national and provincial levels. The MUHC has also changed during this time. Therefore, over the past year the MUHC Board, together with external legal advice and input from McGill University and the Faculty of Medicine, undertook a detailed evaluation of the By-Laws as well as the organizational structure of the RI-MUHC.

There’s been a lot of discussion in the press recently in response to news that The Lancet had finally retracted the paper that linked the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine to autism when it was first published back in 1998. It set off a wave of fear amongst the public.

As the holiday season approaches, we reflect on how our work in research also impacts the world around us. Indeed, several RI investigators provide training, education, and medical support in different countries around the world. As the year end approaches, we take a look at how some of our investigators have had an impact on other parts of the world during the past year.

As you’ve all heard by now, the Research Institute has successfully brought in a pension plan to the benefit of all qualifying employees, the Government and Public Employees Retirement Plan (RREGOP) and the Pension Plan of Management Personnel (PPMP to be officially implemented on January 1, 2011.
