Job Summary: 

This job posting is for a Research Assistant at Dre. Geneviève Bernard’s Laboratory, Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. The laboratory is focused on pediatric neurodegenerative disorders, and more specifically on the identification of new causal genes and on understanding their pathophysiology using cell and molecular biology, as well as human studies.

GENERAL DUTIES:

The research assistant will be expected to:
1. Perform basic genetic manipulations, including PCR, Western blot, analyses of Sanger sequencing and exome sequencing, validation of variants, etc.
2. Conduct cell culture experiments, transfection studies, and cellular mRNA and protein isolation and analysis.
3. Conduct molecular biology techniques including plasmid DNA preparation, DNA mutagenesis and vector construction
4. Take care of the day-to-day management of the laboratory, including ordering materials and reagents, support for the supervision of students, etc.

Requirements: 

The candidate should have a strong background that includes experience with tissue culture, and molecular biology. An academic background with a M.Sc. will be seen as strength.

Salary: 
Pay Scale: $30 000 -35 000 per annum (35-hour workweek), as per qualifications and experience of the candidate
Schedule: 

Status: Temporary, 4-5 days per week
Work Shift : 9 a.m. to 5p.m., Mondays to Fridays
