IBD NURSE CLINICIAN
Under the supervision of the McGill Chair of IBD, the Nurse Clinician will be primarily responsible for the nursing care of IBD patients followed at the MGH campus of the MUHC. Management of cases will involve liaison with resources within the hospital and the community. The candidate will act as an educational resource for colleagues and other members of the health care team and participate in educational events for IBD patients and their families. The McGill IBD nurse will assist carrying out the IBD group’s research projects.
GENERAL DUTIES
• Evaluate the needs of IBD patients referred to the MGH. Provide direct care to patients and their families and act as a resource person, ensuring that appropriate follow-up is provided
• Act as the liaison between patients/families, medical staff, in-patient units, emergency room, referring institutions, the community and other health care agencies;
• Initiate diagnostic and nursing procedures relevant to the patient’s history and presenting complaints;
• Recognize and manage minor illnesses according to protocol;
• Monitor test results for abnormalities and follow up appropriately;
• Perform pertinent physical assessment related to presenting complaint;
• Recognize and refer more serious problems to the physicians;
• Assist in the development of strategies to improve service, continuity of care and patients’ adherence to treatment;
• Intake interviewing of new patients to include:
Gathering information about the patient and the family;
Teaching the process for seeking medical care during the day, evening, or weekend;
• Patient teaching/counselling re:
How best to cope with their condition, stressors;
Drug & other therapies or procedures related to IBD;
When to contact the nurse or physician
• Participate in:
Team meetings, nursing seminars where pertinent;
GI rounds where pertinent ;
Conferences related to IBD held outside the Centre;
Educational programs for support staff;
• Promotes and participates in IBD research in collaboration with other team members and other professionals.

• Knowledge of the IBD disease process and its clinical implications;
• Excellent planning, time management, interpersonal & organizational skills
• Bilingual-French/English spoken; English written
Work Shift: 4 or 5 day week
