His Excellency, the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, was in Montreal on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 to present the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award to deserving Canadians from various walks of life. Among them were two very dedicated MUHC volunteers.
Congratulations to George Hines, who was awarded the Caring Canadian Award for his long and dedicated work as a volunteer for the Montreal General Hospital.
Congratulations to Linda Chernin Rosenblatt, who was awarded the Caring Canadian Award for her many years of support for cancer patients and their families, notably through the Cedars Cancer Institute.
Rita Giulione, Volunteer manager at the MGH, attended the ceremony. “I could not be more proud of both George and Linda. I sat watching them receive their award with great affection and admiration for all the dedication and hard work they provide the MUHC - MGH. It was an honour to be present and I am thrilled that they were recognized for their volunteer work.”
About the Caring Canadian Award
Created in 1995, the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award recognizes living Canadians and permanent residents who have made a significant, sustained, unpaid contribution to their community in Canada or abroad. Often working behind the scenes, these individuals volunteer their time and efforts to help their fellow citizens. The award also brings to light the example set by volunteers, whose compassion and engagement are a part of our Canadian character. For more information about this award, visit www.gg.ca/caring
