In the midst of this historic transformation, the media are keeping up to speed with the latest developments at the MUHC. In order to keep you informed, today we’re launching our MUHC in the news bulletin - a weekly review of news highlights about the MUHC. 

Dr. Sidorowicz talks MUHC transformations on Global Morning

Dr. Ewa Sidorowicz, associate director general of Medical Affairs and Professional Services at the MUHC, gave an interview on Global Montreal last week to explain the reorganization of the MUHC to the greater public and inform Montrealers where to go for care after the moves in Spring of 2015. The interview marked the start of a series of interviews about the new MUHC. Every Tuesday morning, Global Montreal will broadcast a segment called #AskMUHC, during which an expert will highlight one of our many transformation projects at the MUHC. Don’t miss the next segment, which will be aired exceptionally on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 7:10 a.m. Imma Franco, interim director, Technical Services, Planning and Real Estate Management, will speak about the activities at the new Glen site.

Barbara Brock takes good care of your heart

The longtime Royal Victoria Hospital volunteer, Barbara Brock created the Helping Heart Pillow Project to bring comfort to patients who recover from open-heart surgery. She realized they were using bunched-up towels against their chests as they did physiotherapy exercises to help with their recovery. “I went home and thought about it,” Brock recalled, “and said: ‘Wouldn’t it be nice if each of them got a red heart-shaped pillow?’ To learn more about Brock's life-changing initiatives, read Susan Schartz’s article in Montreal Gazette.

 Reducing cancer-related fatigue with low-intensity exercises 

Fatigue is one of the most pervasive symptoms associated with cancer. The findings of Nancy Mayo, a researcher at the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation of the Research Institute of the MUHC, are very promising in that regard. In a recent pilot study, she implemented a personalized walking exercise program over an eight-week period that reduced cancer-related fatigue.
