MUHC Surprised by OCPM Recommendation on Zoning of 1750 Cedar
A recommendation within the Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM) report on the McGill University Health Centre’s (MUHC) plans for the Montreal General Hospital and the 1750 Cedar property has come as a surprise.
In recommending that 1750 Cedar not be rezoned for institutional purposes, the OCPM contradicts five favourable responses to the proposed project, which the MUHC has received from the Ville-Marie Borough’s and the City's independent consultative bodies, including provincial ones, such as the Comité consultatif d’urbanisme and the Commission des biens culturels du Québec.
The MUHC is disappointed as the plans achieve a balance between assuring vital patient-care needs and protecting and enriching the Historic and Natural Borough of Mount-Royal. The current project would also be less disruptive for patients, healthcare professionals and neighbourhood residents.
The OCPM report is one aspect of the project approval process. The MUHC will study this report and continue to move forward with the next steps because this is an important project for Montrealers.
