A thank you letter that warms the heart

Staff at the Lachine Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) received a wonderful surprise in the mail this past October.

Frances Irons, who is 92 years old, thanked a number of employees who gave her exceptional care during her recent stay at their hospital.

In addition to expressing her gratitude to the care team, Irons asked a quite unusual question. She wanted to know if she could have the recipes for the delicious soups made by Food Services. The team of Marie-Ève Lefebvre, head of Food Services at the Lachine Hospital, happily fulfilled her request. “We had to scale down the original recipes, which generally make 45 litres, so that Ms. Irons could make just 1.4 litres of soup,” explains Lefebvre.

A book with all of the soup recipes adapted especially for Irons was hand delivered to her last week. She was ecstatic that she can now cook her favourite soup at home.

“This letter gave us great joy and really touched the Food Services team,” says Lefebvre. “In 2013, we worked really hard on the quality and variety of our menus. Knowing that someone noticed and appreciated our effort gives the entire team both motivation and pride.”
