Lecture by Dr. Brian Ward
Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the MUHC Associate Director of the McGill Centre for Tropical Diseases>
November 1, 2006
Infectious diseases have killed millions of people throughout history. Medical science has done much to eradicate infectious diseases over the past 50 years, but no vaccine is 100 per cent effective. Dr. Ward describes how new immunologic ideas are being incorporated into therapies for problematic infections and explains how these new tools may be the best hope yet for the human race to address ongoing pandemic diseases like HIV and tuberculosis as well as potential pandemics like avian flu and the ‘second coming’ of SARS. Dr. Brian Ward completed his medical training at McGill University, and conducted graduate work in the UK at Oxford University and the University of London. His research is conducted in seven countries worldwide. In addition to his positions at the MUHC and McGill University, Dr.Ward is Director of Health Canada’s National Reference Centre for Parasitology (NRCP). Dr.Ward’s research is funded in part by the CIHR.
