And the CaRMS match is..

What do you get when you add 6 months, 13 applications, 11 interview requests, 8 flights, 1 road trip, 2 train rides..

What do you get when you add 6 months, 13 applications, 11 interview requests, 8 flights, 1 road trip, 2 train rides, 3 rank order lists and more waiting then anyone should ever have in a lifetime? The answer of course is 1 match. In my case, I had the absolute pleasure of matching into a wonderful program and city. I am very happy to report that I have matched into pediatrics at McGill University.

The morning of the match is one that I will never forget. No matter how hard I tried to not wake up before noon, I was unable to stay asleep. This inevitably led to some of the longest hours of my life. I tried to fill them by playing guitar hero (which by the way is a really great tool for distracting oneself), but not even that was good enough on this day.

Eventually, noon did arrive and I could log on to see the results. It took a few minutes to process the words on the page, but I did eventually get there. The rest of the day was essentially spent toasting, eating baked goods and talking on the phone with almost everybody I know.

And then it was over. I had survived CaRMS! Needless to say I did not do it alone. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my wonderful family and friends for putting up with me not only trough out this process but also through the rigors of medical school. I would also like to thank everyone at the MUHC for giving me an avenue to share my experiences. And finally, I would like to thank all of my classmates for being wonderful. I wish everyone the best of luck in their upcoming residencies and future careers.

As for me, I will be blogging through out residency, sharing some of the unique experiences of a medical resident with all of you. Until then, thank you for reading and for your kind words. I look forward to our next adventure together.
