Discussion: Research priorities for Cerebral Palsy and funding needs over the next five years

Resources priorities for Cerebral Palsy (CP), and areas deserving investment.

Question 1: What do you feel should be the resources priorities for Cerebral Palsy (CP)?
Are there areas of Cerebral Palsy knowledge that are weak and which deserve more investment dollars?

The CP demonstration project, which is one of the major components at the MCD, already had research efforts directed as epidemiology in terms of extending Quebec CP registry to other regions in Canada. These included research into
  • animal models,
  • therapeutics in terms of bringing stem cells to an animal model CP intended for a for later clinical trial,
  • imaging study,
  • genetic study in terms of looking at the genome-wide basis of particular genes that may be associated with CP, or predispose an individual to develop CP.
