The Best Care for Children Campaign receives $10,000 from the Philippine Centre Foundation of Greater Montreal
Montreal, December 17, 2009 – The Philippine Centre Foundation of Greater Montreal recently donated $10,000 to The Best Care for Children Campaign in support of the construction of the new Montreal Children’s Hospital at the Glen Campus.
“We are very pleased to be contributing to this important project for our community, and for all Montrealers,” stated Salvé Hernandez Desprez, President of the Philippine Centre Foundation of Greater Montreal, who initiated this first joint event to benefit the two community causes. “A new Montreal Children’s Hospital will not only benefit child patients but their families as well.”
At an event held in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce on December 5th, members of the Montreal Filipino community gathered to present the cheque to The Best Care for Children Campaign and to give scholarships to 13 youngsters of Filipino descent who excelled in their studies and who helped raise funds for the new Montreal Children’s Hospital within the community.
Marc Garneau, Member of Parliament for the Westmount-Ville Marie riding, handed out the scholarships; while Sylvia and Richard Cruess, co-chairs of The Best Care for Life Campaign represented the McGill University Health Centre at the cheque presentation. Mary Deros, city councillor for the district of Park Extension, member of the executive committee and responsible for social development, community and family, attended the event which also featured dance and musical numbers by young performers.
“The McGill University Health Centre deeply appreciates this generous donation from the Philippine Centre Foundation of Greater Montreal,” stated Sylvia Cruess. “Individuals, families, community groups and the business community are stepping up to help us complete the McGill University Health Centre’s Redevelopment Project at the Glen, Mountain and Lachine campuses. Together, we will help transform health care for generations to come.”
