In 2008 Kate established the Kate McGarrigle Fund through the MUHC to raise money and awareness for the fight against sarcoma, a rare cancer. As John A. Rae, chairman of the MUHC Best Care for Life campaign, so eloquently stated, “Kate’s generosity and support for her fellow cancer sufferers, despite her own illness, was an inspiration to all of us.”
“Kate exuded warmth and an incredible spirit,” said the Hon. Arthur T. Porter, MUHC Director General and CEO. ”Her music and devotion to family struck a chord with thousands of people. A bright light, Kate will be sorely missed.”
