A Brand New Cardiac Care Unit

A brand new cardiac care unit is inaugurated at the McGill University Health Centre’s Montreal General Hospital

On the 5th of February a brand new cardiac care unit was inaugurated at the McGill University Health Centre’s Montreal General Hospital. This new cardiology unit is made up of thirteen single-patient rooms; six of which are reserved for intensive care patients and the other seven for intermediate care patients. The intermediate care rooms include private bathrooms and space for the patient’s loved ones to relax or spend the night. These more spacious rooms enable caregivers to bring diagnostic equipment directly to the patient’s bedside where they can be examined and treated more easily and much more comfortably. Single rooms, which will be the standard across all of our sites, also help maintain the privacy, dignity and well-being of patients and their families.

Dr. Murray Kornbluth, director of cardiology at the Montreal General Hospital explains, “These new units, designed according to the norms of modern innovative hospitals, will make all the difference in our daily activities. It is like day and night.”

The Montreal General Hospital’s new cardiology unit is part of the MUHC redevelopment project and demonstrates how the New MUHC will enhance care and the patient experience across all of our sites. Dr. Kornbluth adds: “Our mission is simple: offer care to patients. Thanks to the additional space, the new technologies and the ergonomic design, families know that we have all the proper tools to take great care of their loved ones.”
